About the conference
Co-organised by the Royal Society and the African Academy of Sciences, and funded by the , the Commonwealth Science Conference 2021 will take place virtually from 22-26 February 2021.
The conference will bring together outstanding early career researchers and leading scientists from across the Commonwealth to facilitate joint work on addressing global development challenges, to encourage scientific capacity strengthening in Commonwealth countries; and to influence the Commonwealth policy agenda.
This is the third Commonwealth Science Conference, with previous conferences having taken place in and in .
Themes
Under the overall theme of ‘Science for a resilient future’, the programme will include a wide range of perspectives from scientists from across the Commonwealth on the following sub-themes:
- Developing resilient energy systems – decarbonising energy consumption, mitigating climate change, and moving towards a circular economy
- Nurturing resilient ecosystems – maintaining and strengthening biodiversity, sustainable stewardship of the oceans, and adapting to a changing climate
- Building resilient societal systems – adapting to a changing climate, moving towards a circular economy, and addressing the health impacts of covid-19
