The CEO of KoTDA, Eng. John Tanui paid a courtesy call to the Director General of the NACOSTI, Prof. Walter Oyawa, in his office.

The two CEO’s discussed on how the two organizations can build synergy in the area of Science, Technology, Innovation and Research.

They noted that KoTDA and NACOSTI had complementary mandate as implementing agency and regulator, respectively. Whereas KoTDA was established to ensure that Konza grows into a sustainable, world-class technology hub and a major economic driver for the nation, NACOSTI was established to regulate and assure quality in the science, technology and innovation sector and advise the Government in matters related thereto.

In their discussion, Eng. Tanui and Prof. Oyawa also recalled previous fruitful engagement and partnership that is now culminating into the launch of Kenya’s first Specialized Degree Awarding Institution of Strategic National Importance, the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The construction of the multibillion KAIST is soon commencing at Konza Technopolis, and may form a strong foundation for partnership between KoTDA and NACOSTI, taking cognizance of their complementary roles.

The two CEOs agreed that teams from the two institutions meet virtually next week to deliberate on possible areas of collaboration and way forward.
