NACOSTI and ICHA-Red Cross representatives during a consultative meeting on partnership at NACOSTI Headquarters in Nairobi.
National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) on Friday, 6th February 2026 held a consultative meeting with representatives from ICHA -Red Cross aimed at strengthening collaboration in research, innovation, and humanitarian response. The meeting brought together officials from both NACOSTI and ICHA-Red Cross to explore areas of mutual interest, especially in the application of science, technology and innovation in supporting of humanitarian operations and disaster preparedness.
Speaking during the meeting, Alice Otwori emphasized on the Commission’s mandate in regulating, coordinating, and assuring quality in research and innovation activities in Kenya. She also reiterated the importance of partnerships with humanitarian organizations such as ICHA Kenya Red Cross in promoting ethical research practices and use of scientific evidence in humanitarian programs. ICHA – Red Cross Executive Director, Safia Verjee highlighted the organization’s role in humanitarian response, health interventions and community-based initiatives applauding NACOSTI for the excellent initiates. They noted the need for closer collaboration with NACOSTI to enhance research compliance, ease innovation, and strengthen the use of scientific knowledge in addressing emerging humanitarian challenges.
In the engagement, both institutions re-affirmed their commitment to working together in advancing national and humanitarian development priorities and proposed to explore partnership in research licensing, capacity building, data sharing, and joint initiatives aimed at improving humanitarian outcomes through science and innovation.
