Mr. Harrison Macharia - Head, Industrial & Allied Sciences

Mr. Harrison Macharia is the head of Industrial & allied sciences. He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Chemistry from the University of Nairobi. He joined the Civil Service on 22nd October 1981 as a geologist by then the Ministry of Water Development. While in the Ministry of Water Development he pursued his Master of Science degree in hydrogeology from the University College London (UCL) in 1987. He was later promoted as a Water Research Officer in 1991 before joining the Ministry of Research and Technical Training in 1996 as a Senior Research Officer.

He Joined the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) in 2000 as a Principal Science Secretary. In the year 2005 he was promoted to the post of a Chief Science Secretary to date.

At NCST he coordinated the development of the National Biosafety Framework (NBF). The impact of the (NBF) is the birth of the National Biosafety Authority. He established the National Biosafety Authority as the acting Chief Executive officer from April 2009 up to December 2010.

His academic and work experiences spans over a period of 31 years. He has represented the NCST Chief Executive Officer in several boards amongst them, Kenya Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kenya Forest Research Institute and Numerical Machine Complex. He is also a registered geologist and a lead professional expert in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) /Environmental Audit (EA).
